Learn 4 Life exists to document change and innovation in education in this country and the world. The site highlights ideas around ICT that challenge and question the current orthodoxies. It's not simply a blog about the latest Web 2.0 tools or teaching techniques although it does encompass those things - the aim of the whole project is t…

Learn4Life Island has been in Second Life now for roughly two years and in that time I have put a lot of time and money into the building of the space to see what the possibilities are for education in the future. This year I am intent on building an imagina…

With the growth of the internet, technology and especially with web 2.0 tools it is now easier for each of us to build a unique online Personal Learning Network (PLN).
These networks often grow organically as we ourselves evolve both needs and skills ... with the increase in available information worldwide and easier access there comes a time when it's advisable to pause and reflect.
Not only is this an exercise in time management but also one related to keeping sane under the rapid growth of…

I received the notification that as an EU citizen I would henceforth be charged VAT on all purchases from Linden Labs! Well, it seems SL is officially no longer 'black market economy' and the Revenue men are having their share LOL. Has anyone investigated what this means for UK educational projects in SL? I know some educational institutions are VAT exempt, we are not here at Connexions (for some reason, the old DfES changed the rules). I also do not know what implications this has for buying Li…

I was given a castle kit by a SL friend. I built it on the sky platform above my house in Aramaki. Castle Denby has been fun to decorate, but altering the fabric of the building has been a problem (too many linked parts). So Castle Denby is being dismantled. I have several kits for buildings, many of them untried. Does anyone want one before I delete them for good from my inventory? Contents include castles, log cabins, beach huts etc... Cheers, Gill

I find this experience quite a challenge. I use Second Life (SL) to meet in world friends, do a little land speculation (YES! You can make real money!), I design and make virtual clothes, learn building and scripting skills and all in my own private personal time. MY TIME! Whilst I have read a lot about the numerous universities and learning groups sharing this world with me, I have not ventured too far into the serious side of SL. This has definately been my play thing and not my work thing.
