Hello Margaret
Thank you for your message. I have been following your technical problems on here and I am really pleased you have finally managed to get on. It's very frustrating when things just dont work as they should...

There are plenty of stats around showing the resident make up in terms of age/sex/country etc. For example

http://s3.amazonaws.com/static-secondlife-com/_files/xls/SL_Virtual_Economy_Metrics_02-02-07.xls

It surprised me to discover that a third are American, with France, Germany and the UK making up around another third and the rest of the world the rest.

Hmm re escort or stripper! I make money in SL and certainly don’t do either of those. Pretend or not. SL is based around an economy with on average 75% of the population buying (land/gadgets/clothes/body parts/services) leaving 25% of he population considering themselves as sellers. The economy, which is at present unique to SL, will always be an important aspect that will direct people's interests while in world. Real life businesses are realizing the potential to be represented in this new world – after all these people are customers too and they are dealing in real money.

"It is all very interesting but..." …where does education/NAACE/ICT fit into all of this, I presume is the question you are asking? A few months ago, I accidentally flew into a free Arabic class. I sat down, listened to the avatar, watched his teaching aids and started learning Arabic. He wasn’t a good teacher and his displays were ropey, but I did learn. The elements for learning and teaching were there…imagine if that essence was captured, refined, targeted, focused and made available to learners, across the world, across the age ranges. Imagine the NAACE conference, not in the real world, but in Second Life; perhaps running in parallel, how many more people could/would access the information/CPD? There is a lot of work being done by educationalists who are pioneering this new format and I am not the person to comment on them here, I do not know enough of what is going on but I can see the potential. It is very early days and very exciting to witness the developments.

Re the NAACE lounge. There are only 7 people who have joined the group so far. I am not sure if others have joined SL but not joined the group. It is unlikely that you will meet up with other members of NAACE unless members agree to meet at a specific time until there are more members in the group who use the lounge on an ad hoc basis. I do spend a lot of time in there in the evenings and usually bump into two other NAACE members while I’m there but I don’t sit and wait just in case someone might arrive. Your Friends List is a good tool to use to be able to meet up in world as you can tell who is online or not and you can join up through the teleport system. If you would like to give me your avatar’s name, I can send you a friend’s list invite.

Margaret yes - I too have a basic account and have managed to get in but I find it very slow. I will troubleshoot this issue later this week.

Hi Margaret,
Its Sark in Guernsey from last year's holiday. :-) Between the two parts of the island there's a single track with horrendous steep slopes on both sides hence I'm holding on for dear life!
