This URL will teleport you to the NAACE lounge.
Follow the link or copy and paste URL into your browser. You need to have SL open, press the orange "Teleport now" button on your browser. The map will then show up in SL, press "Teleport" button. You will end up at the flag just outside the lounge.

I have created a NAACE group on SL. If I know your Avatar's name then I have invited you to join. If I dont, please find search box at the bottom of the SL screen and enter NAACE under the Group tab. You should find it there. Press "Join" to join the group.

I find this experience quite a challenge. I use Second Life (SL) to meet in world friends, do a little land speculation (YES! You can make real money!), I design and make virtual clothes, learn building and scripting skills and all in my own private personal time. MY TIME! Whilst I have read a lot about the numerous universities and learning groups sharing this world with me, I have not ventured too far into the serious side of SL. This has definately been my play thing and not my work thing.

thanks for the extensive reply. I use two avatars, WychElm Homewood and Bracken Homewood. WychElm is still making the most of the Help Island (there is a lot of stuff there including loads of tutorials!) but Bracken has ventured onto the mainland and even visited the Naace Lounge. I see someone else in the group has also chosen the 'Homewood' surname, but I cannot remember who it was.
I have bought and have been reading the book and I have been looking at the research and intend to experiment as far as possible with second life over some months. I can see its potential for MFL, particularly with distance learning and am comparing it to skype which I have been using for nearly a year. I am keeping an open mind and weighing up the pros and cons. So far, given the lack of distance factor in most school teaching, and the ready availability of REAL peers with which to interact it seems to be more trouble than the gains are worth. I am sure many youngsters would benefit from taking part in, say polo. But would the gains be worth the time, trouble and expense? I want to make sure that I find out as much as possible about what can be gained as well as what the risks and problems are before making up my mind. It will be very interesting to see what everyone else thinks. I will see if I can visit the Naace Lounge tomorrow earlier in the evening. Unfortunately SL will run only on the PC up in the spare bedroom. I can't just log in on the PC in my study where I spend a lot of time. I have to go up there and log on specially!

I have waltzed around and chatted with other residents, mostly American but a few European. I have even sort of managed to converse in French with one resident. Some generous people have invited me to their 'homes'. One suggested ways of making money there (as a stripper or excort!!! She told me she wouldn't dream of doing such things in real life but this wasn't real so why not!) It is all very interesting but ....
