The VAT Man cometh

I received the notification that as an EU citizen I would henceforth be charged VAT on all purchases from Linden Labs! Well, it seems SL is officially no longer 'black market economy' and the Revenue men are having their share LOL. Has anyone investigated what this means for UK educational projects in SL? I know some educational institutions are VAT exempt, we are not here at Connexions (for some reason, the old DfES changed the rules). I also do not know what implications this has for buying Li… Continue

Queen of the Castle?

I was given a castle kit by a SL friend. I built it on the sky platform above my house in Aramaki. Castle Denby has been fun to decorate, but altering the fabric of the building has been a problem (too many linked parts). So Castle Denby is being dismantled. I have several kits for buildings, many of them untried. Does anyone want one before I delete them for good from my inventory? Contents include castles, log cabins, beach huts etc... Cheers, Gill

Watch this space

Finally heard back from the Nottm Trent University/Gamecity team who are developing a citizenship space for young people in Nottingham in Teen SL based, I think, on the Nottingham Council House. Now I'm getting excited...and need to crack on and get a grip to develop my Connexions Centre in SL ready to link in/copy across :-) check out GameCity: http://gamecity.org/

This is what makes me think that Teen SL is the way forward for a lot of issues. It's looking at the consequences of actions, looking at the impact of a particular action on other people, and reflecting on what could be done differently to get a different response. I am not an expert in this, but I was once a youth worker and these issues have always needed to be addressed in an environment that a young person feels safe and secure in.

developing good games for young offenders that have impact is hard in these days of Grand Theft Auto, I was havin a discussion the otherday about what would make a real impact and I was saying that we realy need to find ways of attending to young peoples thinking using ideas from CBT. I use the ideas lots when working with sexual offending behavour with primary school children and often use games to make the point about how we quickly move from thinking to permission giving to taking an action. Its at the thinking a stage we have options to sotp listen talk to someone or do something else etc
