Second Life for teachers

Announcement: Sloodle Moot 18th/19th January 2008

After the great success of Daniel Livingstone's Sloodle presentation at the UK Moodle Moot in October, it was decided to follow up the great response and enthusiasm with a virtual version of a Moot.

Weeks of background work and word of mouth promotion later, we are finally ready to announce the event officially:

Come and join us for the very first Sloodle Moot on the 18th/19th January!

We have a full day of sessions, demos and activities surrounding teaching and learning in virtual environments planned for you.

Whether you are completely new to Second Life or new to Moodle and/or Sloodle or whether you are a long standing Second Life resident already and are fully conversant with every aspect of Moodle, this event will have something on offer for you:

Find out about Sloodle, how it works and what it can do for you as a teacher, student or educational techie. Take part in demo sessions of the various tools and find out how other educators are already using them.

Ask those who are using Second Life for teaching about how they got to where they are now and how they made it happen.

Learn about other similar mashup projects and -if you are technically minded- learn directly from the Sloodle development team how they connect the 2D web with the 3D world of Second Life.

Take part in discussion forums surrounding the use of virtual environments in education. What works? What's best avoided? And is all this a good idea anyway?

Alongside the serious sessions, there will also be fun and games to enjoy, as well as an end of event party!

The Sloodle Moot will officially start off at Sloodleville/virtuALBA at 4pm SLT on the 18th January (midnight GMT 19th Jan):

You will also be able to participate in sessions and share some of the fun bits via the Sloodle website.

Within Second Life, Sloodleville will be the base camp for the event, although some sessions will be taking place at other venues. Please check the upcoming event noticeboards at virtuALBA for up to date information and landmarks. The session schedule for the event will also be made available on the Sloodle website shortly.

This is an international event, so there will be a lot of scope for global networking.

If you would like further information about the Sloodle Moot, please contact me directly or reply to this thread.

Hope to see you on the day.
Gia

PS: You may even catch Martin Dougiamas in the pixel!
